The Greek and Roman Pantheon of gods and accompanying mythology is really great. However, Norse mythology kind of owns everything. They have Odin, Thor, the Valkyries, Loki and of course, Frejya, pictured above. Frejya is the Norse equivalent of Aphrodite, invoked in matters of love, fertility, beauty, gold and war. In addition to her regular duties, she is responsible for 50% of deceased soldiers. After the Valkyries claim the fallen in battle, half will go to Odin in the mythical after-plane Valhalla and the rest go to Fólkvangr, under Freyja’s protection. Her attributes are a feathered cloak and a mythical necklace called Brísingamen. She’s pretty badass I guess, one time she convinced Thor to dress up as a woman and marry a giant. Norse mythology is crazy!

> Frejya is the Norse equivalent of Aphrodite,Well that’s a bit of a stretch but I can understand where you come from.> In addition to her regular duties, she is responsible for 50% of deceased soldiers.  >After the Valkyries claim the fallen in battle, half will go to Odin in the mythical after-plane Valhalla and the rest go to FólkvangrWell that’s only in the Christianised version of the Norse mythologies, originally all the deceased soldiers (as long as they were Midgardian) would just go to the Norse equivalent of “Hell”, they’d mostly just stop existing… >She’s pretty badass I guess, one time she convinced Thor to dress up as a woman and marry a giantnO THAT WAS NOT HOW THAT WENTwell at least the dresses are fab

> Well that’s only in the Christianised version of the Norse mythologies, originally all the deceased soldiers (as long as they were Midgardian) would just go to the Norse equivalent of “Hell”, they’d mostly just stop existing…
Let me just tack onto this a bit - the Midgardian warriors who fell in battle, like the OP said, would go to Folkvang or Valhall. Those who died any other way, suck as sickness or old age or infant death or so on, would go to Helheim. If you dies a warrior’s death, the Valkyries did come for you, and Frøya would choose the warriors she wanted in Folkvang.

I don’t have a source to link you to here because I have never read it online, but my teacher had this old ass book and she taught us that before the Christians came to the North, the Norse mythologies were a lot different and darker. And originally, when Midgardians died, they didn’t go anywhere because the Æsir and the Jotuns just didn’t give a shit about them. Only Æsirs and other folks from Åsgard and the like got to go to Valhalla when they died.
